Peanut Allergy Survey (Primary - Grade 6 families)

My name is Vicky LeBlanc, I am a pediatric allergy & clinical immunology subspecialty resident at Dalhousie University. I am leading a research project on peanut allergy under the supervision of Dr Mary McHenry, pediatric allergist & program director of the pediatric allergy & clinical immunology training program at Dalhousie University.

Our research project aims to better understand how often peanut allergy occurs in primary schools and the impact of peanut oral immunotherapy on school aged children. Oral immunotherapy is a novel treatment for food allergy. It is the practice of feeding very small amounts of peanut to allergic children to reduce their allergy.

To achieve this goal, we kindly ask for the cooperation of Halifax Regional Municipality elementary schools. We previously obtained approval from Halifax Regional Centre for Education research board and Dalhousie University research board of ethics.

We ask you to distribute an email containing a link to an online voluntary survey to parents of children attending your school. This is an anonymous survey containing 6 multiple choice questions taking approximately 3 minutes to complete.

Turkey Soup Lunch

We are providing a free lunch of turkey soup and biscuits for students and staff this Wednesday January 11. Please let us know if your student(s) has a food related allergy or sensitivity.

Canteen Price Increase

Due to the rising cost of some items there will be an increase in the price of popcorn from $1.25 to $1.50 and Juice from $0.75 to $1.00.

Incentive: If you purchase 5 items you will receive a free granola bar or a bag of goldfish.

Candy Canes will be for sale $0.25.
